"Merlot 2002 Deep purple-red; clean, rich, fully ripe; a lovely medium-bodied red wine; not especially varietal, but who cares? "

*** Three star rating, Winestate May/June 2005 "The nose is all spicy and chocolatey; has a slight 'pong'. Consistent palate, very firm tannins and nice acidity."
2003 Mount Burrumboot Estate Heathcote Shiraz
![]()
"Speaking of work horses, here's a lovely wine with deep dark brooding colours of opaque black to purple. Quite a complex nose follows which is intensely fruit driven with hints of spice. Some crushed pepper, macerated deep cherries, blackberries, plum, liquorice and chocolate characters further add to the wine's character. Clearly identifiable in style as good Heathcote Shiraz (easy for me to say as I've quite a few lately). What you get is an ample bodied wine that can cellar confidently for at least 5-7 years. Try this with a lamb potato and spinach hotpot. Go to www.burrumboot.com. Well priced at around $30." - Paul Ippolito, May 2005 , also listed in Paul Ippolito's "Best of 2005"

2005 Mount Burrumboot Estate Heathcote Tempranillo

“I was very impressed by the 2005 Mount Burrumboot Tempranillo. It has the plump, supple middle palate and fine-grained tannins that are so appealing with tempranillo. Caillard agreed: “Sweet fruit with strawberry, blueberry and musk plums. A touch of pencil from oak, slinky tannins and good persistance.” Hooke added: “I loved the richness and flesh. I found licorice and anise too.” Altogether a very graceful, balanced wine that should develop well over three or four years. A variety to watch!” Nick Bulleid MW, AGT Wine Magazine April 2007
***** Rated 93 (one of the six top Heathcote wines).
