Farming In The Family
Mount Burrumboot Estate is a family-owned farm and vineyard on the slopes of the Mount Camel Range in the reknown Heathcote Wine Region. Long-time farmers, we run a cropping , lamb and beef farm, as well as taking our knowledge of the land and the soil to grow the best grapes from these pre-Cambrian hills. Our wines are handmade by winemaker, Cathy Branson, ably helped by husband Andrew, in small batches, with minimal intervention. Using wild yeasts, and traditional French oak casks, our wines reflect the exceptional and singular terroir of the Heathcote region.
As farmers, we have always responded to the seasons and changes in growing conditions and markets, and we have taken this same approach to our wines.
Although the Heathcote Wine Region is reknown for Shiraz, we thought outside the square, and planted the varieties we love and have enjoyed on our travels when we have encountered similar terroir to home.
Shiraz is there, sure; but also Sangiovese, Marsanne, Viognier, Gamay, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Tempranillo. Each variety of grape has been carefully crafted to allow the grape to fully express the weather, the terroir… the changing nature of our seasons and the timelessness of our soils.
Our wines receive minimal treatments; plunged by hand, traditionally pressed, and allowed to mature slowly in French barriques and then in bottles until the wines are ready.
Our wines are characterised by the softness on the palate, as the flavour cloaks itself around finely structured tannins. Excellent growing conditions mean that the acid/tannin structure of the wines is a feature.
These are wines that, whilst enjoyable when young, are built to last, and we are finding that our ten year old wines are an absolute joy to imbibe.

The Wines
We have available wines stretching back to 2008, though our current release is 2012. We have available for sale, for most vintages, Shiraz, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
There are limited quantities of some vintages of Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Gamay.
We also have several vintages of our Marsanne-Viognier blend, the 2009 vintage in particular having won international trophies.
Our wines distinguish themselves as flavour bombs, yet retain a refined elegance and lushness. Our wines offer the opportunity for both enthusiasts and casual wine fans to enjoy older vintages at a reasonable price.
Cellar Door
Unfortunately, current conditions mean that our Cellar Door is closed.
However, our wines can still be purchased by giving us a call or shooting us an email. We can discuss with you what you might like to buy, and can organise mixed cases, with a selection of different wines and vintages, depending on your taste.
